ConnectFamilias is serving as an important community partner with Miami-Dade College, InterAmerican Campus and the University of Miami School on Nursing & Health Sciences on grants that were recently funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).
The Prevention Education for Substance Abuse and the Transmission of HIV/AIDS (PESATH) involves a partnership with Miami Dade College, InterAmerican and Medical Campuses. The three-year grant, totaling nearly $800,000 focuses on prevention of substance abuse and HIV/AIDS among MDC, InterAmerican and Medical Campus students and residents in communities surrounding the InterAmerican Campus. As the lead PESATH community partner, ConnectFamilias will lead outreach efforts and implementation of evidence-based substance abuse and HIV prevention interventions in communities surrounding MDC campuses. We will also partner with MDC faculty to train health professionals and community leaders as Community Health Workers.
